My name is Rodney Dorrance and I am a third generation carpenter and woodworker. I started working with barnwood through a friend when I was 16 years old.
After working for other people in the construction industry, in the early 2000’s my wife, Kim, and I we started Wood -N- Rods to continue our passion of building. We are a team that has an excitement for building custom pieces of furniture out of reclaimed wood.We’ve never met a piece of wood that we didn’t love. We see the potential in lumber with rich history, and that has led us to some truly wonderful reclaimed wood sources over the years.
All of our pieces created are truly one of a kind that capture the history of barns that they come from while providing a unique character to your home. So with our skills and your ideas we can create a custom piece of furniture for you and generations to come!

HOW IT WORKS
We like to start with a conversation. This is to ensure every project is custom and unique to you and your family’s liking. Our sustainable lumber is salvaged from old barns, stock farms, and warehouses. Site visits are done by Rodney himself, assuring the vintage look and quality of the wood. The wood is then restored and given a new life in your home. A little piece of rich in history and character will add a certain beauty to your life.

We like to start with a conversation. This is to ensure every project is custom and unique to you and your family’s liking. STEP 1 - PLANNING
In this stage, we’re going to sit down with you and really get to know who you are and why you’re wanting to work with us. This is our chance to get to know you, to have a collective conversation and to really envision what you’re wanting. We’re going to figure out where you want to place this, why you’re wanting to work with us and how we’re going to get this done for you. We will sit down with you and look over pictures of your house, to really try and make your one-of-a-kind piece special to your home. We take pride in making each piece of furniture unique, so we really want to make sure we get all the details that are going to help us create a masterpiece for you!
STEP 2 - SELECTION
This is where you’re going to be able to get your hands dirty, if you will. You get a tour of the office where you’ll get to see samples of work that we’ve done in the past, you’ll get to see the different types of wood that we’ve used. You’ll get to see the variety of colors and types of wood, along with all the different types of stain that we use on our pieces. This is where you get to give input into what you’d like to see for your one-of-a-kind piece.
STEP 3 - CREATION
This is where the magic begins. We start sketching out your custom design – because no two designs are ever the same! We want you to stay in touch during this process so that we can get your approval along the way, to make sure we give you everything you want and more. Everything is it’s own process, and there is no set deadline for each of our pieces. We pride ourselves on creating custom built pieces. This is also the stage where you put 50% down, and then 50% once your piece is completed.
STEP 4 - PICKUP
Once your piece is complete, we will notify you and you will be able to set up a time to come pick up your custom, built-to-order piece!
Furnishings must be picked up. We will try our best to schedule a time and date that works best for our customers.
